The Flex Box Ex ia is a position feedback enclosure for valves equipped with pneumatic rotary actuators. Its shaft couples directly to the actuator shaft, and internal cams actuate sensors to provide open/closed signals to PLC, DCS, or safety systems. The device does not contact the process media.
Suitable for Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, and Zone 22, with marking:
ATEX certification: EPS 16 ATEX 1 012 X, compliant with Directive 2014/34/EU and EN 60079-0, EN 60079-1, EN 60079-7, EN 60079-11, EN 60079-31.
Enclosure is copper-free aluminium (Cu <0.05%), suitable for saline atmospheres, sulphur gases, or ammonium nitrate environments. Enclosure protection: IP66/IP67.
Depending on version, accepts:
Gold contact mechanical switches: Ui 30 V, Ii 15 mA, Pi 35 mW. For Ex ia circuits: Ui 28 V / Ii 200 mA (IIC), Ui 32 V / Ii 450 mA (IIB).
Permitted temperature depends on temperature class and sensor type. For EFX…IA with gold contacts: T6/T80°C up to +70°C, T5/T95°C up to +80°C, T4/T135°C up to +100°C. Lower limit: -55°C or -25°C depending on build.
When is Ex ia selected?
When position signals must be intrinsically safe and wiring is routed via certified barriers or isolators.
Does valve PN or Class affect selection?
No. Selection is based on Ex zone, sensor type, ambient temperature, wiring, and VDI/VDE 3845 compatibility.
The name flex Box stands for particularly high flexibility. Thanks to the robust, copper-free aluminum ( 0.05% copper content), it is not only suitable for harsh environmental conditions with high demands on stability and resilience, but also for applications with salty atmospheres, sulfur gases and ammonia nitrate.
