Tecfluid LR – 80 GHz Radar Level Transmitter

The LR series is not a float-type point level switch. It is a continuous radar level transmitter designed for non-contact measurement of liquids and solids. The sensor emits a microwave signal toward the medium surface and calculates level based on the frequency shift of the returning echo.

Variants

  • VEGAPULS C11: 2-wire, measuring range up to 8 m, accuracy ±5 mm.
  • VEGAPULS C21: 2-wire, measuring range up to 15 m, accuracy ±2 mm, HART available.

Applications

Suitable for water tanks, pump stations, retention basins, stormwater overflow, open channel flow measurement, and level control. Non-contact measurement reduces effects from buildup, density changes, or moderate variations in media properties.

Installation Guidelines

The sensor face should be as parallel as possible to the product surface. Minimum distance from tank wall: 200 mm. In nozzles, the sensor must protrude at least 5 mm beyond the nozzle end. Avoid installation near fill inlets.

Certifications & Communication

Available with ATEX, UKEX, IECEx, cCSAus, cFMus, NEPSI, EAC, INMETRO, FDA, NSF, WHG, marine certifications (on request). Configuration via Bluetooth or PACTware/DTM. For Modbus RTU RS485, MT03L converter required.

FAQ

Is there a dead zone?
No classic dead zone specified; within the first 250 mm from the antenna, accuracy is ±10 mm.

When to select C21 over C11?
For extended measuring range, higher accuracy, or HART communication.

Effect of agitators?
False echoes from agitators or internal tank structures should be mapped/filtered via echo configuration.
