KITO G 13.2 N – Inline Liquid-Filled Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® FL/EO-…-IIB3 (wf) is a unidirectional inline flame arrester designed for filling lines outside storage tanks handling flammable liquids. It is tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4 and is specified where prevention of stable detonation transmission through the filling line is required.

Application Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: vertical only
  • Connection piping: DN equal to or less than flange DN
  • The body must remain filled with process liquid up to flange level during operation.

Construction and Maintenance

The G 13.2 N variant is designed for maintainability, featuring a hexagonal drain plug for liquid removal. The tank side is clearly marked in the manufacturer’s drawing and must be observed during installation.

Materials / Options:

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flanges: EN 1092-1 Form A or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF

Dimensions and Pressure Ratings

Available in DN 25 to DN 200. Pressure classes: PN 40 (DN 25–40), PN 16 (DN 50–150), PN 10 (DN 200). DN selection must consider filling flow rate, allowable pressure drop, liquid density, and explosion group.

Flow Calculation

Flow/pressure drop curves are determined with water per DIN EN 60534 at 15 °C and 1013 mbar. For other liquids, correct flow rates for density.

Certifications

Supplied with type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

FAQ

Can it be installed horizontally?
No. Approved installation is vertical only.

Is it suitable for IIC group?
No. Certification is limited to IIB3 group.

Can it operate without liquid in the body?
No. The liquid must be maintained up to the flange level during operation.

  • As inline armature, detonation-proof and flameproof, used for installation in filling pipes outside from tanks in which inflammable liquids are stored.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA1 to IIB3 with MESG ≥ 0.65 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • It is only allowed to install pipes of nominal widths ≤ than the nominal widths of the flange.
  • Mounting position is perpendicular.
  • The body of the housing has to be permanently filled with the storage liquid up to the height of the connecting flanges.
  • Equipped with a hexagon head pipe plug for emptying the liquid.
