KITO G 14 N – End-of-Line Liquid Seal Flame Arrester

The KITO® FL/IN-…-IIB3 is a unidirectional end-of-line liquid seal flame arrester designed for installation at the termination of filling or discharge lines inside storage tanks containing flammable liquids. It serves as an explosion and flame arresting device in applications where the pipeline ends within the liquid inventory.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Approval: Detonation flame arrester type 4
  • Installation position: Vertical
  • Permitted piping: DN equal to or less than the DN of the flange

Suitable for horizontal and underground tanks. Flow direction can be selected for filling or emptying, but installation must follow manufacturer’s geometry and orientation requirements.

Functional Principle

The body must remain permanently filled with the stored liquid. The integrated anti-drainage device acts as a flame arresting element and limits suction of the sealing liquid. A hexagonal drain plug is provided for maintenance.

Dimensions and Flow Rates

Available in DN 25 to DN 125. DN 25–40 are PN 40; DN 50–125 are PN 16. Maximum suction flow rate V max ranges from 30 to 720 m³/h and must not be exceeded.

Selection and Maintenance

Selection is based on DN, explosion group, liquid density, suction flow, pressure drop, and material compatibility. Flow curves are determined with water per DIN EN 60534 at 15 °C and require correction for different densities.

FAQ

Does it cover IIC?
No. Approval is limited to IIB3.

Can the body be left empty?
No. Permanent filling with the stored liquid is required.

Certification?
Type certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® FL/IN-…-IIB3

  • As end-of-line armature, detonation-proof and flameproof, used for mounting on the pipe end of filling and discharging pipes inside of tanks, in which inflammable liquids of the explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 are stored, with a nominal gap width (MESG) of ≥ 0.65 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Equipped with a safety device against complete emptying which is constructed as flame arrester element in order to prevent the suction of sealing liquid.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Any direction of flow can be chosen. Particularly suitable for horizontal and underground vessels.
  • Mounting position is perpendicular.
  • It is only allowed to install pipes of nominal widths ≤ than the nominal widths of the flange.
  • The body of the housing has to be permanently filled with storage liquid.
  • Equipped with a hexagon head pipe plug for emptying the liquid.
  • Suction rate V max specified in above table may not be exeeded.
