KITO G 13 N – Liquid Seal In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® FL/E-…-IIB3 is a unidirectional in-line flame arrester designed for installation in filling and suction pipelines outside tanks containing flammable liquids. Its operation relies on maintaining a permanent liquid seal within the body up to the flange level, providing a barrier against flame transmission.

Application Limits

Tested as a detonation flame arrester type 4, suitable for explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 (MESG ≥ 0.65 mm). Maximum operating temperature is 60 °C. Not approved for group IIC. Use is restricted to certified limits.

Installation and Hydraulic Constraints

Installation is vertical only. Connected piping must have a nominal diameter equal to or less than the arrester flange. Do not exceed the specified maximum suction flow (V max) to ensure liquid seal integrity and certified explosion protection.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 25 to DN 200. DN 25–40: PN 40; DN 50–150: PN 16; DN 200: PN 10. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 Form A; optional: ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

  • Cover: cast steel 1.0619 or 1.4408
  • O-ring: Viton or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable

No actuator is provided; this is a passive in-line explosion protection device.

Can it operate without liquid in the body?
No. The body must remain filled to flange height.

Is horizontal installation permitted?
No. Only vertical installation is certified.

Does it cover all gas groups?
No. Approval is limited to IIA1 through IIB3.

Description

KITO® FL/E-…-IIB3

  • As inline armature, detonation-proof and flameproof, used for installation in filling and suction pipes outside from tanks in which in-flammable liquids are stored.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA1 to IIB3 with MESG ≥ 0.65 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Equipped with a safety device against complete emptying which is constructed as flame arrester element in order to prevent the suction of sealing liquid.
  • It is only allowed to install pipe of nominal widths ≤ than the nominal widths of the flange.
  • Mounting position is perpendicular.
  • The body of the housing has to be permanently filled with the storage liquid up to the height of the connecting flanges.
  • Suction rate V max specified in above table may not be exceeded.
