Foot Valve with Flame Arrester KITO G 12 N

The KITO® NRV-…-IIB3 is a line-end foot valve with integrated in-line detonation flame arrester, designed for installation at the lower end of suction lines in underground tanks containing flammable liquids. The assembly retains the liquid column in the suction line and simultaneously prevents flame propagation back into the tank.

Operating Limits and Certification

Suitable for liquids generating vapors in explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3, with MESG ≥ 0.65 mm. Maximum operating temperature is 60°C. The device is tested as a detonation flame arrester type 4 and supplied with type certification per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Installation in Suction Lines

The foot valve must be installed strictly vertical at the end of the suction pipe. Connection to piping with a larger diameter than the valve’s connection is not permitted, as this affects the certified explosion protection and hydraulic losses.

Dimensions, Connections, and Materials

Available in DN 25 to DN 150. DN 25–DN 40 are rated PN 40; DN 50–DN 150 are PN 16. Standard flanged connection per EN 1092-1 type A, with options for ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF or socket thread.

Sizing Selection

Selection is based on suction flow rate, allowable pressure drop, liquid density, explosion group, and pipe diameter. Manufacturer’s curves provide flow vs. Δp and include correction for different media densities.

FAQ

Does it function as a simple check valve?
Not only. It is a foot valve with certified in-line detonation flame arrester functionality.

Can it be installed horizontally?
No. Vertical installation at the suction end is required.

Is it approved for group IIC?
No. Approval is up to IIB3 with MESG ≥ 0.65 mm.

Description

KITO® NRV-…-IIB3

  • For end of line service, detonation proof, valve with superposed valve pallets, for installation into suction pipes of underground tanks in which inflammable liquids of explosion group IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safety gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm and an maxi-mum operating temperature of 60 °C are stored.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • A draining of the liquid column will be prevented reliably.
  • Installation of the foot valve has to be exact vertically at the end of the suction pipe.
  • It is not allowed to connect it to pipelines with a larger diameter than the connecting size of valve itself.
