KITO G 20.6 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester for Stable Detonation

The KITO® FD6-Det4-IIA-…-1.2 / …-1.2-T is a unidirectional inline detonation flame arrester, certified for protection against stable detonation. It is installed in gas-phase piping to prevent flame transmission to vessels, tanks, or downstream equipment. This device does not function as a check valve; normal flow is permitted in both directions.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Certification: detonation flame arrester type 4
  • Mounting position: orientation-independent, observe protected side marking

Thermal Monitoring Variant

The -T version includes a PT100 sensor and is certified for short-term burning from one side. The PT100 enables thermal monitoring and can be integrated with interlock, alarm, or emergency shutdown systems. It is not an actuator.

Dimensions, Connections, Materials

Available for DN 125 and DN 150, PN 16. Flanges per EN 1092-1 Form B1, optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Material options:

  • Body/cover: carbon steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO shell/mesh: stainless 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, 1.4571 material

Application Selection

Compared to G 20.5 N, the G 20.6 N is suitable for media up to IIA (not IIB3) but is available in larger diameters (DN 125–150). Selection is based on explosion group, MESG, pressure, temperature, DN, pressure drop, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K; correction is required for other gases.

Description

KITO® FD6-Det4-IIA-…-1.2

KITO® FD6-Det4-IIA-…-1.2-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“
