KITO G 21 N – Bidirectional Detonation Flame Arrester for Piping

KITO® EFA-Det4-I-…/…-2.5 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels, tanks, and process equipment against stable detonations in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors. The unit is type-tested as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1
  • MESG: ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 2.5 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical pipelines
  • Protection function: bidirectional, suitable where ignition may originate from either side of the line.

PT100 Sensor Versions

Variants -T and -TT are equipped with one or two PT100 temperature sensors. Single-sensor units are certified for short-duration burn from one side only; the sensor must be installed on the expected fire side. Dual-sensor units provide monitoring from both directions.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 25 to DN 300. DN 25–40: PN 40; DN 50–150: PN 16; DN 200–300: PN 10. Standard connection: EN 1092-1 type B1; optional: ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

G 21 N is selected for bidirectional detonation protection in gas lines of group IIA1 at pressures up to 2.5 bar abs. Pressure drop must be verified using flow curves (air, density 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K).

FAQ

Covers IIB or IIC?
No. Certification is for IIA1 only.

When is -TT version required?
When thermal monitoring of short-duration burn is needed from both sides.

Certification?
Type-tested to EN ISO 16852 and CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-I-…/…-2.5

KITO® EFA-Det4-I-…/…-2.5-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 2.5 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • Ifonly one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
