KITO G 20.5 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester for Stable Explosion

The KITO® FD6-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2 / …-1.2-T is a unidirectional inline flame arrester designed for pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. It provides protection for tanks, vessels, and process equipment against the propagation of stable explosions through piping. The device is type-tested as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Flow: permitted in both directions
  • Installation: position-independent, observe protected side marking and possible detonation direction.

PT100 Version

The -T variant includes a PT100 sensor and is certified for short-term burning from one side. The sensor is not an actuator; it is intended for thermal monitoring and connection to safety or alarm systems.

Dimensions, Connections, Materials

Available in DN 50, DN 65, DN 80, DN 100, all rated PN 16. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 Form B1; optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Construction materials:

  • Body/Cover: carbon steel, optionally stainless 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO housing/mesh: stainless 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

Compared to G 20.3 N, the G 20.5 N covers the stricter group up to IIB3 (vs. IIB1). Selection is based on explosion group, MESG, DN, pressure drop, operating pressure, temperature, and gasket compatibility with the medium. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K; correction is required for other gases.

Description

KITO® FD6-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2

KITO® FD6-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“.
