KITO G 20.3 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester for Stable Explosion

The KITO® FD6-Det4-IIB1-…-1.2 / …-1.2-T is a unidirectional inline detonation flame arrester designed to prevent the propagation of stable detonations in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors from flammable liquids. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4, it is suitable for vessel, tank, and equipment protection.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB1
  • MESG: ≥ 0.85 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • “-T” version includes PT100 sensor for certification against short-duration burn from one side

Unidirectional function refers to the direction of possible detonation, not normal flow. Flow is permitted in both directions. Installation must observe the protected side marking.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 50, DN 65, DN 80, DN 100, all rated PN 16. Standard connection: EN 1092-1 Form B1 flange; optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body/Cover: Carbon steel; optional stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO housing/mesh: Stainless steel 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571
  • Actuator: Not applicable; passive device

Application Selection

G 20.3 N differs from G 19 series mainly in available diameters (starts at DN 50). Selection should consider explosion group, MESG, pressure, temperature, DN, pressure drop, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are provided for air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K; correction is required for other gases.

FAQ

Description

KITO® FD6-Det4-IIB1-…-1.2

KITO® FD6-Det4-IIB1-…-1.2-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB1 with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.85 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“.
