KITO G 19.5 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester for Stable Explosion

The KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2 / …-1.2-T is a unidirectional inline detonation flame arrester for pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. It is designed to protect vessels, tanks, and process equipment from the propagation of stable detonations through piping. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Version -T with PT100 sensor for certification against short-duration burning from one side

Unidirectional function refers to the direction of possible detonation, not normal flow direction. Flow is permitted in both directions. During installation, observe the protected side marking and the indicated explosion direction.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 25, DN 32, DN 40, and DN 50. DN 25–40 supplied in PN 40, DN 50 in PN 16. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 Form B1, optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body/Cover: carbon steel
  • Optional: stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO housing/mesh: stainless steel 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571
  • Actuator: not applicable, passive protection device

Selection Guidance

Compared to G 19.3 N and G 19.4 N, the G 19.5 N covers media up to IIB3 and operating pressure up to 1.2 bar abs.. Selection should verify MESG, DN, pressure, temperature, pressure drop, material compatibility, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are based on air density 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K; corrections are required for other gases.

Description

KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2

KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“.
