KITO G 19.4 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester with Short-Burst Combustion Monitoring

The KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB-… / FD4-Det4-IIB-…-T is a unidirectional inline detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels, tanks, and process equipment against the propagation of stable detonations in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB
  • MESG: ≥ 0.5 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.1 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • With -T version and PT100 sensor, certified for short-duration combustion from one side.

Protection is unidirectional with respect to potential detonation direction. Normal flow is permitted in both directions. Installation must observe the protected side marking and the indicated explosion direction.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 25, DN 32, DN 40, and DN 50. DN 25–40 supplied in PN 40, DN 50 in PN 16. Standard connection is EN 1092-1 Form B1, with option for ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body/Cover: carbon steel
  • Optional: stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO housing/mesh: stainless steel 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

Compared to G 19.3 N, the G 19.4 N covers a broader range of media up to IIB with MESG ≥ 0.5 mm, but with a lower maximum operating pressure of 1.1 bar abs.. Selection should be based on explosion group, MESG, DN, pressure drop, temperature, and thermal monitoring requirements.

Description

KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB-…

KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB-…-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.5 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.1 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“.
