KITO G 19.3 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester for Stable Explosion

The KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB1-…-1.2 / …-1.2-T is an inline detonation flame arrester designed to prevent the propagation of stable explosions in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. It is tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4 for the protection of vessels, tanks, and process equipment.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB1
  • MESG: ≥ 0.85 mm
  • Maximum operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Maximum operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Version -T includes PT100 sensor for certification against short-duration burn from one side

Unidirectional protection refers to the direction of possible detonation, not normal flow direction. Flow is permitted in both directions, but installation must observe the protected side marking.

Dimensions and Connections

Available for DN 25 to DN 50. DN 25, DN 32, and DN 40 supplied in PN 40; DN 50 in PN 16. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 Form B1, optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Maintenance

  • Body/Cover: carbon steel
  • Optional: stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO housing/mesh: stainless steel 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Sizing Selection

Selection must consider explosion group, MESG, pressure, temperature, DN, pressure drop, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K; correction for other gases is required based on density.

Typical Applications

  • Solvent tank venting
  • Vapor recovery lines
  • Chemical installations with IIB1 group gases
  • Piping requiring detonation protection and short-duration burn monitoring

FAQ

Description

KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB1-…-1.2

KITO® FD4-Det4-IIB1-…-1.2-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB1 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.85 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“.
