KITO G 18.2 N – Inline Detonation Flame Arrester for Stable Explosion

The KITO® FDN-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2 / …-1.2-T is an inline detonation flame arrester designed to prevent the propagation of stable explosions in pipelines carrying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. It is tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4 for the protection of tanks, vessels, and process equipment.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion Groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max Operating Pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max Operating Temperature: 60 °C
  • With -T version and PT100 sensor, certified for short-term burn from one side

Unidirectional protection applies to the potential explosion direction, not to normal flow direction. Flow may occur in both directions. During installation, observe the protected side marking and the indicated detonation direction.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 25 to DN 100. DN 25–40: PN 40; DN 50–100: PN 16. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 Form B1; optional: ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body/Cover: Cast steel 1.0619
  • Optional: Cast stainless 1.4408
  • O-ring: Viton or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO shell/mesh: Stainless 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Selection Criteria

Selection must consider explosion group, MESG, DN, pressure, temperature, allowable pressure drop, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K; correction for other gases is required based on density.

Typical Applications

  • Solvent tank vent lines
  • Vapor recovery systems
  • Chemical and petrochemical installations
  • Pipelines for gases in groups IIA to IIB3
  • Lines requiring detonation protection and short-term burn monitoring

FAQ

How does it differ from G 18.1 N?
G 18.2 N covers up to IIB3. Selection must always be confirmed based on the MESG of the process medium.

Can it be installed in any orientation?
Yes, installation is position-independent, but the protected side must be observed.

Certification?
Type tested to EN ISO 16852 and CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® FDN-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2

KITO® FDN-Det4-IIB3-…-1.2-T

  • For installation into pipes to protect containers and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Working unidirectional in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • Provided with one temperature sensor (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one side.
  • The installation is not dependent on the position and both directions of flow are possible.
  • During installation, please observe the direction of detonation and the indication „protected side“.
