KITO G 28 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester IIC

The KITO® RG-Det4-IIC-… / -T / -TT is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester with threaded connections, designed for the protection of vessels and equipment against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gases, vapors, or liquids capable of forming explosive atmospheres. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIC
  • MESG: < 0.5 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs. for G 1/8" to G 1"
  • Max operating pressure: 1.1 bar abs. for G 1¼" to G 2"
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Endurance to stabilized burning: BT ≤ 1.0 min
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping, no orientation restrictions

Connections and Thermal Monitoring

Available with threads G 1/8" to G 2". Variants -T and -TT include PT100 temperature sensors, ¼" connection, stainless steel 1.4571. For stabilized burning detection, a sensor is required on each potentially exposed side. PT100 not available for G 1/8" to G 3/8" connections.

Construction Materials

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell / mesh: 1.4301 / 1.4310 or 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Bolts / nuts: A2 or A4

Application Selection

G 28 N differs from G 27 N by covering the stricter IIC group, with limited stabilized burning endurance BT ≤ 1.0 min. Selection must consider MESG, operating pressure, temperature, thread size, flow rate, pressure drop, gasket material, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

FAQ

Covers IIC group?
Yes. Certified for IIA1 to IIC with MESG < 0.5 mm.

Is it a check valve?
No. It is a passive flame transmission barrier, not a non-return valve.

Certification?
Type tested to EN ISO 16852 and CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® RG-Det4-IIC-…

KITO® RG-Det4-IIC-…-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIC with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) < 0.5 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 or 1.1 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • All sizes are tested against “stabilized burning” and withstand this up to a max. burn time BT ≤ 1.0 min.
  • To detect a “stabilized burning” a temperature sensor must be installed at each endangered side.
  • Mounting is acceptable in any position, in horizontal as well as in vertical pipes.
