KITO G 28.0 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester IIC, Flanged

The KITO® RG-Det4-IIC-… / -T / -TT is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester with flanged connections, designed for the protection of vessels and process equipment against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gases, vapors, or liquids capable of forming explosive atmospheres. Installation is permitted in both horizontal and vertical pipe runs.

Operating Limits

  • Type Approval: Detonation flame arrester type 4
  • Explosion Groups: IIA1 to IIC
  • MESG: < 0.5 mm
  • Operating Temperature: up to 60 °C
  • Operating Pressure: 1.2 bar abs. (DN 15–25), 1.1 bar abs. (DN 32–50)
  • Endurance Burn Resistance: BT ≤ 1.0 min

Connections, Materials, and Sealing

Available in DN 15 to DN 50. Pressure ratings: PN 40 up to DN 40, PN 16 at DN 50. Standard connection: EN 1092-1 type B1; optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

  • Body: Carbon steel or stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell/mesh: 1.4301 / 1.4310 or 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Bolting: A2 or A4

PT100 and Burn Detection

Variants -T and -TT include a PT100 sensor (¼" connection, 1.4571). For stabilized burn detection, a sensor is required on each potentially exposed side. No actuator is included; PT100 is wired to alarm or interlock systems.

Application Selection

The G 28.0 N is the flanged variant for IIC applications in small diameters. Selection should consider MESG, DN, flow rate, allowable pressure drop, gas density, operating pressure, and gasket compatibility. Flow curves are based on air (ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K).

FAQ

Covers IIC?
Yes, for substances with MESG < 0.5 mm.

Is it a check valve?
No. It is a passive flame transmission barrier.

Certification?
Type tested per EN ISO 16852, CE marked according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® RG-Det4-IIC-…

KITO® RG-Det4-IIC-…-T (-TT)

-design with flange connection –

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIC with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) < 0.5 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 or 1.1 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • All sizes are tested against “stabilized burning” and withstand this up to a max. burn time BT ≤ 1.0 min.
  • To detect a “stabilized burning” a temperature sensor must be installed at each endangered side.
  • Mounting is acceptable in any position, in horizontal as well as in vertical pipes.
