KITO G 25 N – Bidirectional In-line Detonation Flame Arrester IIC

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIC-…/…-1.2 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester for pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. It is designed to protect vessels and equipment from stable detonation and is tested as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIC
  • MESG: < 0.5 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical pipeline
  • Protection: bidirectional, suitable where detonation may originate from either side of the line.

PT100 and Short-term Burning

The -T version includes one PT100 sensor; the -TT version includes two. With a single PT100, the sensor should be installed on the body side where fire is expected. With two sensors, both sides are monitored for short-term burning.

Dimensions and Connections

Range covers NG 65 to NG 500 with DN 25 to DN 250 connections. Small sizes: PN 40; medium: PN 16; large: PN 10. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 type B1; optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell: galvanized steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2

Application Selection

G 25 N is selected where bidirectional detonation protection is required for media up to IIC (stricter explosion group than IIA/IIB3). Selection must consider MESG, DN, pressure drop, flow rate, gas density, temperature, operating pressure, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K; correction is required for other gases.

FAQ

Does it cover group IIC?
Yes. Certified for IIA1 to IIC with MESG < 0.5 mm.

Is it a check valve?
No. It is a passive flame transmission barrier.

Certification?
Type tested to EN ISO 16852 and CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIC-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIC-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIC with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) < 0.5 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
