KITO G 24.5 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-HF-IIB3-…/…-1.2 is an in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels, tanks, and process equipment against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gas or vapor. The device provides bidirectional protection, suitable for installations where ignition may originate from either side of the line.

Operating Limits

  • Approval: Detonation flame arrester type 4
  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping

PT100 and Short-Term Burning

The -T variant includes one PT100 sensor; the -TT variant includes two. With a single PT100, the sensor must be installed on the side where fire is expected. Dual sensors enable monitoring from both directions. PT100 is for thermal monitoring (alarm/interlock), not for actuation.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in NG 65 to NG 500 with connections DN 25 to DN 250. Small sizes: PN 40; medium: PN 16; large: PN 10. Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1 or optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolting: galvanized steel or A2

Application Selection

G 24.5 N is selected for bidirectional detonation protection in media up to IIB3, with pressure ≤ 1.2 bar abs. and temperature ≤ 60 °C. DN selection must consider flow, pressure drop, gas density, MESG, gasket material, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

FAQ

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-HF-IIB3-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Det4-HF-IIB3-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
