KITO G 24.4 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIB3-…/…-2.5 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels, tanks, and process equipment against stable explosion in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 2.5 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Protection function: bidirectional, suitable for ignition from either side of the line.

Thermal Monitoring

Variants -T and -TT are equipped with one or two PT100 temperature sensors. For single-sensor units, the PT100 should be installed on the body side where fire is most likely. The sensor is intended for short-term burn monitoring and connection to alarm or interlock systems, not as an actuator.

Dimensions and Connections

G 24.4 N corresponds to NG 400, with connections DN 150 PN 16 / 6" ASME or DN 200 PN 10 / 8" ASME. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 type B1, optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2

Application Selection

Select G 24.4 N for bidirectional detonation protection up to IIB3 media, pressure up to 2.5 bar abs. Selection should consider MESG, DN, flow rate, pressure drop, gas density, temperature, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIB3-…/…-2.5

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIB3-…/…-2.5-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 2.5 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
