KITO G 23 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-… is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and process equipment against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4, it is suitable for installation in both horizontal and vertical pipelines.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion Groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Operating Pressure: 2.5 bar abs. up to NG 300
  • Operating Pressure: 2.0 bar abs. from NG 400
  • Max Temperature: 60 °C
  • Protection Function: Bidirectional, suitable for ignition from either side of the pipeline.

Thermal Monitoring

Variants -T and -TT are equipped with one or two PT100 sensors. With a single PT100, the sensor should be installed on the side where ignition is most likely. Dual sensors enable monitoring of both sides for short-duration burning.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 25 to DN 400, with pressure classes PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10 depending on size. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 type B1; optional: ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body: Cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell: Galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • Mesh: Stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/Nuts: Galvanized steel or A2

Application Selection

G 23 N is selected for bidirectional detonation protection in media up to IIA, with higher allowable pressure than several G 22 series variants. Selection must consider MESG, DN, pressure, temperature, pressure drop, gas density, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

FAQ

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-…

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-…-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 2.5 bar abs. up to NG 300, pmax = 2.0 bar abs. from NG 400 and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
