KITO G 22.5 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2-X16 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and equipment against stable detonation in pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. It is tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4 and does not function as a check valve.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 160 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical pipeline
  • Protection: bidirectional, suitable where detonation may originate from either side of the line

Thermal Monitoring

The -T version includes one PT100 sensor; the -TT version includes two PT100 sensors. For single-sensor units, installation should be on the side where fire risk is anticipated. Dual-sensor units monitor both sides for short-duration burning.

Sizes, Connections, and Materials

Available in NG 65 to NG 300 with DN 25 to DN 150 connections. DN 25–40: PN 40; DN 50–150: PN 16. Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1 or optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Construction materials:

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell and mesh: stainless 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

Compared to G 22.2 N and G 22.3 N, the G 22.5 N maintains group IIA but operates up to 160 °C and 1.2 bar abs. DN selection should consider flow rate, allowable pressure drop, gas density, MESG, temperature, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

FAQ

Does it cover IIB or IIC?
No. Certification is limited to IIA1 to IIA.

When is -TT selected?
When short-duration burning monitoring is required on both sides.

Certification?
Type tested to EN ISO 16852 and CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2-X16

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2-X16-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 160 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
