KITO G 22.3 N – Bidirectional Inline Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-X16 is a bidirectional inline flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and process components against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. The protection function is bidirectional, suitable where ignition may originate from either side of the pipeline. Note: This device does not function as a check valve.

Operating Limits

  • Approval: Detonation flame arrester type 4
  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.1 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 160 °C
  • Installation: permitted in horizontal and vertical pipelines

Thermal Monitoring

The -T version includes one PT100 sensor; the -TT version includes two. For single-sensor units, the PT100 should be installed on the side where fire is expected. Dual-sensor units monitor both sides for short-duration burning events.

Sizes and Connections

G 22.3 N is available as NG 100 with the following connections:

  • DN 40 PN 40
  • DN 50 PN 16
  • Optional: ASME 1½" or 2" Class 150 RF

Standard flange: EN 1092-1 type B1.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619
  • Optional body: cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • KITO housing/mesh: stainless 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

Compared to G 22.2 N, the G 22.3 N maintains coverage up to IIA but increases the allowable temperature limit to 160 °C. Selection must consider explosion group, MESG, pressure, temperature, DN, pressure drop, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K; correction is required for other gases.

FAQ

Does it cover IIB or IIC?
No. Approval is limited to IIA1 to IIA.

When is -TT selected?
When thermal monitoring for short-duration burning is required on both sides.

Certification?
Type certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-X16

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-X16-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.1 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 160 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
