KITO G 22.2 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-X10 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and equipment against stable detonation in pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.1 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 100 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Protection: bidirectional, suitable where detonation may originate from either side of the line

Thermal Monitoring & Stabilized Burning

Versions -T or -TT include a PT100 sensor for stabilized burning detection on one or both sides. Test durations depend on size: NG 100: TBT 30 min, NG 500: TBT 1 min.

Sizes & Connections

Available in two main series:

  • NG 100: DN 40 PN 40 or DN 50 PN 16
  • NG 500: DN 200 PN 10 or DN 250 PN 10

Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1, optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

G 22.2 N is selected where bidirectional detonation protection is required for media up to IIA group, with operating temperature up to 100 °C (compared to 60 °C in other variants). DN selection must consider flow, pressure drop, gas density, MESG, temperature, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are provided for air at ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K.

FAQ

Does it cover IIB or IIC?
No, approval is limited to IIA group.

When is -TT required?
When thermal monitoring is needed on both sides.

Certification?
Type tested per EN ISO 16852, CE marked according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-X10

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-X10-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.1 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 100 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • If equipped with a temperature sensor (PT 100) a protection against stabilized burning is given from one resp. both sides.
  • The devices are tested and approved with different burning times depending on their sizes (NG 100: TBT= 30 min, NG 500: TBT= 1 min).
