KITO G 22.1 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® CFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and equipment against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4, it functions as a passive flame transmission barrier and is not intended to serve as a check valve.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Protection: bidirectional, suitable for ignition risk from either side of the line

Thermal Monitoring & Condensate Drainage

The -T variant includes one PT100 sensor; the -TT variant includes two. Single-sensor installation is on the body side with higher fire risk; dual-sensor units monitor both sides. The body is equipped with two drain plugs for condensate removal.

Dimensions & Connections

Available for DN 50 to DN 400. DN 50–150 supplied in PN 16, DN 200–400 in PN 10. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 type B1; optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell: carbon steel (galvanized up to NG 400) or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolt/nut: galvanized steel or A2

Selection Criteria

Selection must consider explosion group, MESG, DN, pressure drop, temperature, operating pressure, and thermal monitoring requirements. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K; corrections are required for other gases based on density.

Description

KITO® CFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2

KITO® CFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
  • Equipped with two head pipes plugs for draining condensate.
