KITO G 22 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of tanks, vessels, and process equipment against stable detonations in piping systems conveying flammable gas or vapor. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4, it is suitable for installation in both new and existing process lines.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion Groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max Operating Pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max Operating Temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Protection: bidirectional, ignition may originate from either side of the line

Thermal Monitoring

The -T variant is equipped with one PT100 sensor; the -TT variant includes two PT100 sensors. For single-sensor units, installation should be on the side where fire risk is anticipated. Dual-sensor units provide short-duration burn monitoring from both directions.

Dimensions and Materials

Available in sizes DN 25 to DN 400, with pressure classes PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10 depending on diameter. Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1 or optionally ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials:

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2

Application Selection

G 22 N is selected for bidirectional detonation protection for media up to IIA and pressures up to 1.2 bar abs. DN selection should consider flow rate, pressure drop, gas density, explosion group, temperature, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K.

FAQ

Does it cover IIB or IIC?
No, approval is limited to IIA.

When is -TT used?
When thermal monitoring is required on both sides.

Certification?
Type-tested per EN ISO 16852 and CE marked according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4. Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
