MACOGA Offset Type – Elastomeric Connector with Misaligned Axes

Offset Type elastomeric expansion joints are engineered for piping systems where the axes of two pipe runs are not parallel or a defined lateral offset exists at the connection point. This is a custom-fabricated component, not a standard catalogue item, and is manufactured according to detailed drawings or technical specifications.

Application Context

Offset solutions are implemented in constrained spaces where conventional spool pieces or standard straight elastomeric joints cannot accommodate geometric misalignment. The offset is considered a design parameter, not an installation error to be corrected on site.

Selection Data Required

For quotation or technical evaluation, provide:

  • Inlet and outlet DN.
  • PN / flange class and drilling standard.
  • Offset in mm and angle of misalignment.
  • Installation length.
  • Pressure, temperature, and process medium.
  • Axial, lateral, and angular movements during operation.
  • Vacuum requirement, if applicable.
  • Elastomer material and internal lining requirements.

Unless otherwise specified, flanges are drilled to match the corresponding pipe size. For custom offset units, detailed fabrication drawings or comprehensive specifications should accompany the RFQ.

Materials and Optional Configurations

Depending on the process medium, available elastomers include EPDM, NBR, CSM/Hypalon, SBR, Neoprene, or FKM/Viton. For aggressive chemicals, PTFE/FEP lining can be specified to protect wetted surfaces of the tube and flange.

Optional features: split retaining rings, protective covers, sun covers, multiple convolution profiles, internal sleeves, or filled arches. These address friction reduction, UV protection, vortex limitation, or prevention of solids accumulation.

Installation and Inspection

The connector must not be twisted or loaded beyond its design movements. No additional gasket is used on the elastomeric sealing face. Flanges must be flat, clean, burr-free, and tightened crosswise with a torque wrench.

No actuator is required. Proper selection depends on offset geometry, pipe anchoring, pressure thrust, media compatibility, and allowable loads at equipment nozzles.

Description

The non-standard “Offset” rubber expansion joints are designed and fabricated in consideration for installation misalignment and non-parallelism, of the attachment piping axis. The “Offset” joints are often used in restricted spaces where use of standard piping is not feasible for correction of misalignment.

Please note that Macoga typically drills flanges in accordance with the flange pipe size, when specific instructions are not provided by customer. Because these are custom units, Macoga suggests that details of construction either in fabrication drawings or detailed specifications, be provided with the request for quotation on “Offset” Rubber Expansion Joints.
