Macoga MQP Axial Expansion Joints

The Macoga MQP is a metallic axial expansion joint, single unrestrained type, with quick press end connections. It is designed for HVAC heating, ventilation, and air conditioning networks. The construction features a single metallic bellows with quick press ends, primarily used to absorb axial pipe movements resulting from thermal expansion.

Operation in Piping Systems

The MQP type does not restrain pressure thrust. The piping system must be equipped with main anchors, directional anchors, and alignment guides, calculated for operating pressure, effective area, and anticipated thermal movement.

Typical Applications

  • Heating and cooling circuits
  • Closed-loop HVAC water systems
  • Mechanical rooms in buildings and industrial facilities
  • Networks requiring rapid connection without flanges or welding
  • Locations needing axial expansion compensation in small to medium pipe sizes

Compatibility with the conveyed medium, temperature, pressure, and pipe material must be verified against the product nameplate and order specifications.

Comparison with Other Macoga Versions

  • MQP: Quick press connection for HVAC
  • MTE: External BSP or NPT thread
  • MTI: Internal BSP or NPT thread
  • MWA: Weld ends
  • MFA / MFG: Flanged versions, fixed or loose flanges

Installation and Inspection

MQP joints are not intended for correcting misalignment. Prior to installation, verify the nameplate, bellows cleanliness, correct gasket positioning, and absence of unintended compression, extension, or lateral offset.

Before pressure testing, remove yellow transport bars. During operation, inspect for leakage, pressure loss, vibration, external corrosion, guide and anchor integrity, and possible particle accumulation in the bellows.

FAQ

Is an actuator required?
No. This is a passive piping component.

How does it differ from a rubber vibration absorber?
MQP is intended for metallic thermal expansion compensation in HVAC lines, not as a substitute for rubber connectors without movement, anchor, and guide control.
