Cast Flow Axial Disc Check Valve

The Cast Flow Axial Disc Check Valve is designed for axial disc movement with a return spring. Flow remains aligned with the pipeline axis, and the short disc travel enables rapid closure when flow decreases or reverses. This configuration is primarily used to limit reverse flow and mitigate hydraulic shock (water hammer) in pumping systems.

Materials and Sealing

Standard construction: Body EN-GJL-250 or EN-GJS-400-15, disc EN-GJS-400-15, shaft AISI 304, guide EN-GJS-400-15, seat EPDM, spring AISI 302. Non-standard versions available in austenitic, duplex, or superduplex alloys, with NBR/Viton seats and AISI 316 or Inconel springs for specific fluid and temperature requirements.

Applications

Suitable for pump stations, water treatment and distribution, filtered irrigation, fire protection networks, HVAC, industrial circuits, and compressed air. Strainer-equipped versions can be used as foot valves on pump suction lines.

Selection Considerations

DN selection should be based on flow rate, allowable pressure drop, flow velocity, and critical reverse velocity. For low flow or transient pump conditions, alternative spring forces may be specified to prevent disc oscillation.

FAQ

Does it have an actuator? No, operation is by differential pressure and spring force.
Can it be installed horizontally and vertically? Yes, suitable for all mounting orientations.
Is it the same as a swing check? No. Axial movement and spring closure provide faster shutoff and reduced slam risk compared to swing check designs.

VALVES AXIAL – NOZZLE COMPARISON

SPECIAL ALLOYS

Over the years the most frequent used materials on the desalination market have been the so called “Superstainless” or “ superaustenitic”, which anti corrosive properties are superior to austenitic steels.

Due to the price increment on the prime materials and as an alternative more competitive for these materials, Duplex and Superduplex of second generation have been introduced in the market of desalination.

The family of Duplex and Super duplex Stainless steels offer a significant advantage over Standard austinic steels.

The 50/50 ferrite /austenite structure gives improved corrosion and abrasion resistance together with improved tensile and yield properties.

Duplex Composition range is obtained by a complex structure, and therefore requires a much greater degree of technology, melting and process control compared with austenitic stainless steel constructions.

CASTFLOW VALVES S.L. has been experiencing the production of check valves in Duplex stainless steel for the last years, increasing our knowledge on the complex casting technology.

PITTING RESISTANCE EQUIVALENT NUMBER (PREN)

The resistance to pitting of an alloy is of vital importance , particularly so in handling seawater. Assessment of resistance to pitting is often made by use of a pitting resistance equivalent number which, when this takes account of Cr Mo and N is referred to as a PREn Number.

Calculation is made on the basis of the following.

PREN= %Cr+ 3.3%Mo16%N

PREN-768x489
