Cryogenic Trunnion Mounted Side Entry Ball Valve – Neway

Side-entry ball valve with trunnion-mounted ball, designed for cryogenic isolation service. This configuration covers sizes 2"–24", ASME Class 150–900 / PN16–PN150, stainless steel body, and RF, BW, or RTJ end connections. Available with manual, pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuation.

Technical Configuration

  • Type: Side entry cryogenic ball valve
  • Ball Support: Trunnion mounted
  • End Connections: Raised face, butt weld, or ring type joint
  • Stem Sealing: Low-emission graphite packing
  • Cryogenic bonnet extension to isolate stuffing box from cold zone
  • Anti-static and standard fire-safe design
  • Drop plate to limit condensate ingress into insulation
  • Stem guide for alignment and operational torque control

Trunnion Selection Logic

Trunnion support is specified when bore size, differential pressure, or required torque make floating ball designs impractical. The ball is mechanically retained by stem and trunnion, so pressure loads are not transferred solely to the seats. This is critical for LNG, liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, and cryogenic ESD lines.

Seats and Thermal Behavior

Technical documentation specifies seat designs for tightness at ambient and cryogenic temperatures. Seat material selection requires process media, minimum temperature, ASME class, differential pressure, and allowable seat leakage.

Standards and Applications

Typical applications: LNG, air separation, emergency shut-off, and general cryogenic liquid lines. Compliance: BS6364, SHELL77/200, GB/T24925.

FAQ

When is BW preferred over RF?
For permanent cryogenic lines where minimizing flanged leakage points is required.

What data is required for specification?
Media, minimum temperature, design pressure, class, DN/NPS, RF/BW/RTJ, actuator type, and fail-close or fail-open requirement.
