KITO B2N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrestor

The KITO® AEH-4-IIA / AEH-5-IIA B2N type is a terminal venting device for storage tanks, manway covers, and breather lines. It integrates a flame arrestor element for protection against flame transmission and sustained burning, allowing gas venting to atmosphere and air intake into the tank or pipeline.

Operating Range

  • Explosion group: IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: Only in ventilated outdoor or suitable indoor locations
  • Operation: Passive, no actuator or pressure control mechanism

This device does not replace a pressure/vacuum relief valve. It is used where free venting with flashback protection is required, not for controlled set pressure operation.

Dimensions and Connections

B2N covers small nominal sizes:

  • AEH-4-IIA: G ½" / DN 15 PN 40 and G ¾" / DN 20 PN 40
  • AEH-5-IIA: G 1" / DN 25 PN 40 and G 1¼" / DN 32 PN 40
  • Standard connection: threaded
  • Optional: flange EN 1092-1 type A or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF

Construction Materials

Standard body: carbon steel, optional stainless steel 1.4571. Flame arrestor element is replaceable. Housing: 1.4571, mesh: 1.4310 or optional 1.4571, weather hood: PMMA.

Selection and Sizing

Selection is based on required breathing rate, allowable pressure drop, gas density, explosion group, and temperature. Flow curves are provided for air (ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K); correction for other gases is required based on density.

Standards and Certification

Type-tested per EN ISO 16852. CE marked according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

FAQ

How does it differ from larger vent caps?
B2N is for small sizes DN 15–32, with standard threaded connection.

Is it suitable for IIB or IIC?
Not according to this datasheet. Approval is for group IIA only.

What is checked during maintenance?
Inspection for deposits on the element, corrosion, deformation, PMMA hood condition, and unobstructed flow area.

Description

KITO® AEH-4-IIA-…

KITO® AEH-5-IIA-…

  • As breather/venting safety device incorporating an explosion and endurance burning flame arrester element for installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or breather lines.
  • The breather allows the unimpeded flow of gases out to atmosphere and air into the tank/pipe thereby preventing vacuum locks whilst ensuring provision of a permanent and reliable protection against any flashback into the tank/pipe.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
