KITO B1.1N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrestor

The KITO® BEH-4-IIA / BEH-5-IIA type B1.1N is a terminal vent device for storage tanks and breathing lines. Designed for flammable products in explosion group IIA (MESG > 0.9 mm), with a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. The assembly is deflagration-proof and endurance burning-proof, preventing flashback propagation into the tank or pipeline.

Applications

  • Storage tank roof vents
  • Manway covers
  • Breather line terminations
  • Atmospheric venting of stored media vapors

Not suitable for installation in enclosed, unventilated spaces where explosive atmospheres may form.

Sizing Selection

Sizing is based on required venting flow and allowable pressure drop. Flow curves are provided for air (ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K, atmospheric pressure). For other gases, correction by density is required.

Available variants:

  • BEH-4: DN 25–80
  • BEH-5: DN 50–100
  • DN 25–40: PN 40
  • DN 50–100: PN 16

Materials and Connections

Standard body in carbon steel; optional stainless steel 1.4571. Flame arrestor element is fully replaceable. Weather hood: PMMA. Protective mesh: PA6. Standard connection: EN 1092-1 type B1 flange; optionally ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF or threaded.

Standards

Type tested per EN ISO 16852; ATEX 2014/34/EU marking.

Operational Notes

Not a pressure/vacuum relief valve and has no actuator. Media gases vent freely to atmosphere. For overpressure or vacuum control, a separate P/V device is required.

FAQ

When to select BEH-5?
For larger nominal diameters or higher flow, especially at DN 100.

Is it suitable for group IIB or IIC?
Not with current variants. This version is for group IIA only.

What is checked during maintenance?
Cleanliness of flame arrestor, deposits, corrosion, mechanical deformation, and unobstructed vent cross-section.

Description

KITO® BEH-4-IIA-…-A

KITO® BEH-5-IIA-…-A

  • As end of line device for venting connections in tank systems, explosion and endurance burning proof for certain flammable products of explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or at the end of breather lines.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas, if it is not ventilated and explosive atmosphere could arise.
  • The end of line device protects against flashback into the tank/pipe.
  • The gases of the storage medium pass unhindered into the atmosphere.
