PN63 Ball Valve for Gas Service Type 2001-IMF/S/SN

Type 2001-IMF/S/SN is a two-piece, full-bore ball valve for isolation duties in industrial gas pipework. It is supplied with BSP or NPT threaded ends and a nominal pressure rating of PN63 / 1000 WOG, subject to the applicable pressure-temperature curve.

Technical Data

  • Valve type: two-piece floating ball valve
  • Bore: full bore, reduced pressure drop compared with reduced-port designs
  • Size range: DN8 to DN100 / 1/4" to 4"
  • Pressure class: PN63
  • Body material: ASTM A351 CF8M / EN 1.4408 stainless steel
  • Ball: AISI 316 stainless steel
  • Seats and seals: PTFE as standard; alternative sealing materials require confirmation against media and temperature
  • End connections: BSP or NPT female threads
  • Certification: CE
  • Actuator interface: ISO 5211 mounting pad
  • Manual operation: lever with locking device

Suitable Media and Operating Conditions

The valve is used for isolation of clean gas services where the selected materials are compatible with the medium and operating temperature.

  • Natural gas distribution within industrial installations
  • Technical and inert gases
  • Compressed air networks
  • Process gas headers and utility gas lines
  • Burner supply lines, HVAC plantrooms and boiler rooms

PTFE seating is normally the limiting component for temperature. A typical PTFE operating envelope is approximately -20°C to +180°C, with pressure derating at elevated temperature. Final selection should be checked against the manufacturer pressure-temperature rating and local gas installation requirements.

Leakage, Flow and Maintenance Considerations

The full-bore design maintains a pipe-size flow path and reduces permanent pressure loss, which is relevant for gas distribution lines with defined pressure margins. The quarter-turn mechanism provides rapid line isolation for maintenance, emergency shut-off or equipment changeover.

PTFE seats provide soft sealing for shut-off service. The valve is intended for isolation, not throttling. Partially open operation can increase seat wear and may cause unstable flow through the ball port.

Variants and Selection Notes

  • BSP threads are normally selected for European pipe systems; NPT threads are used where tapered American pipe threads are specified.
  • Manual lever operation is suitable for local isolation points.
  • ISO 5211 mounting allows conversion to actuated service without modifying the valve body.
  • PN63 is selected when the design pressure or safety margin is above lower pressure classes.

Actuator Options

  • Pneumatic actuators, spring-return or double-acting
  • Electric on/off actuators
  • Limit switches, position feedback units and solenoid valve packages
  • Integration into BMS, SCADA or industrial control panels

Typical Industrial Use Cases

  • Gas isolation on industrial burners and skids
  • Compressed air isolation before equipment packages
  • Gas distribution stations and manifold branches
  • Maintenance isolation in process utility networks

FAQ

When is PN63 specified?

PN63 is specified when the line design pressure, test pressure or engineering margin exceeds the limits of lower pressure classes.

Why select a full-bore ball valve?

Full bore reduces pressure drop and allows unrestricted passage through the valve bore, which is useful in gas headers and utility networks.

Can the valve be automated?

Yes. The ISO 5211 interface permits direct installation of pneumatic or electric actuators, provided actuator torque is selected for the service pressure and operating conditions.
