Ball Valve Class 900/1500 - Type 590/550 B | JC

JC Type 590/550 B Ball Valve, Class 900/1500

Two-way split-body ball valve, full bore, with ANSI flanged ends for high-pressure process lines. Available in ASME Class 900 and Class 1500, with body materials including S.S. 316L, ASTM A105N and ASTM A352 LF2. Standard seat material: Devlon.

Construction

  • Full-bore flow path for low pressure drop and piggable line service where applicable.
  • Split-body design for maintenance access according to plant isolation procedures.
  • Blowout-proof stem for pressure-containing integrity.
  • Non-removable antistatic device for electrical continuity between ball, stem and body.
  • Cavity pressure equalising hole to reduce trapped-pressure risk in closed position.
  • Live-loaded stem packing to compensate for packing relaxation and thermal cycling.
  • ANSI flanged connection for high-pressure piping classes.

Standards and Compliance

The valve is specified against API 6D, PED, MSS SP 55, ATEX, Fire-Safe API 607 / ISO 10497 / API 6FA and fugitive-emissions requirements ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT. Wetted materials are referenced to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945 where sour-service or refinery-service compatibility is required.

Typical Applications

  • Oil & gas production, gas transmission and refinery units.
  • Chemical and petrochemical process isolation.
  • Power generation, marine fuel systems and terminal loading lines.
  • Mining, pulp & paper and selected food or pharmaceutical utility services.
  • Special-fluid transfer where pressure class, material compatibility and leakage class must be verified.

Suitable Media and Operating Conditions

Typical media include hydrocarbons, natural gas, condensate, process chemicals and compatible utility fluids. Final selection must verify pressure, temperature, differential pressure, fluid phase, cycling frequency, solids content, fire-safe requirement and fugitive-emission class.

Material and Seat Selection

  • ASTM A105N: carbon steel body for general process duties and hydrocarbon service within its temperature and corrosion limits.
  • S.S. 316L: stainless steel body for improved corrosion compatibility in suitable chemical and marine environments.
  • ASTM A352 LF2: low-temperature carbon steel for cold-service applications where impact properties are required.
  • Devlon seat: selected for high-pressure ball-valve seating; verify limits against temperature, pressure, differential pressure and operating cycles.

Class 900 versus Class 1500

Class 1500 is selected when the design pressure and temperature rating of the piping system exceeds Class 900 capability. The pressure-temperature rating must be checked against ASME B16.34, body material, end connection and seat limitations.

Actuation Options

The valve may be supplied for manual operation or prepared for pneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuation, subject to torque calculation at maximum differential pressure. Actuator sizing should consider breakaway torque, cycling frequency, fail position, control philosophy and available utilities.

FAQ

Is this valve for throttling? It is primarily an isolation valve. Continuous throttling can damage seats and should be reviewed separately.

Can it be used in sour service? Only when the full material set, hardness limits and documentation comply with the specified NACE requirement.

What affects leakage performance? Seat material, pressure, temperature, cleanliness of the media, cycling history and maintenance of the stem packing all affect leakage and service life.
