Vacuum Relief Valves Tassalini

Tassalini vacuum relief valves are installed on tanks, stainless steel vessels, and process lines where vacuum conditions may develop during emptying, product cooling, steam condensation, or pump operation. Their function is to admit atmospheric air in a controlled manner when the vessel pressure drops below the vacuum setpoint, preventing structural deformation.

Pressure / Vacuum Operation

In vacuum-pressure versions, the same assembly relieves both overpressure and vacuum. When internal pressure exceeds the set value, the valve opens to vent. If excessive vacuum develops, the air inlet side opens and reseals once pressure returns to the permissible range.

Technical Data

  • Opening pressure setting: 0.1–1.3 bar
  • Fixed vacuum setpoint: 0.01 bar
  • Sizes: 1½”, 2”, 2½”
  • Flow rates: 480, 1200, 3000 l/h (size-dependent)
  • Operating temperature: -10 to +95 °C
  • Connections: welding end or ferrule end
  • Materials: body, springs, internals in AISI 304L; seal in silicone
  • Finish: 120 grit, Ra approx. 1.01–1.14 μm

Selection Criteria

Valve selection is not based solely on connection diameter. Consider:

  • Tank filling/emptying rate
  • Potential for steam condensation inside vessel
  • Permissible design vacuum of the tank
  • Product and CIP temperature
  • Silicone compatibility with process media and cleaning agents
  • Requirement for sanitary ferrule or welded end

Applications

Used in food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, and chemical low-pressure process tanks. In steam or hot water networks, they protect equipment from collapse due to rapid cooling or condensation.

Maintenance

Regular inspection of seat, seal, springs, and free movement of the mechanism is required. Media with foaming, sugars, proteins, or solids increase risk of deposits and setpoint drift.

FAQ

Is this a pressure control valve?
No. It is a vessel protection valve for overpressure and vacuum conditions.

Is the vacuum set pressure adjustable?
The technical datasheet specifies a fixed vacuum setpoint of 0.01 bar; the relief pressure is adjustable from 0.1 to 1.3 bar.
