Conaco Type 444 Temporary Installation Strainers
Conaco Type 444 temporary strainers are designed for short-term protection of piping systems during commissioning, flushing, or after welding and maintenance activities. Typically installed between flanges upstream of pumps, control valves, turbines, flow meters, and heat exchangers, they retain weld slag, rust, debris, and particulates that must not reach downstream equipment.
Construction Range
- Type: Temporary Strainer, Type 444
- ANSI rating: Class 150 to Class 2500
- Sizes: 1″ to 60″ and above
- Materials: alloy steel, high alloy steel, special alloys
- Gasket ring: option for RJT shaped ring
- Dimensions: custom fabrication per project requirements
Screen and Particle Retention
Screens can be specified with double or triple layers, mesh on perforated plate, or mesh-on-mesh. For ferrous debris, magnetic assemblies are available. Mesh selection should consider particle size, flow rate, differential pressure, and intended service duration.
Commissioning Use
Temporary strainers do not replace permanent Y or basket strainers where routine cleaning is required. Removal or cleaning requires opening the flanged joint, isolation, depressurization, and gasket inspection upon reassembly.
Selection Criteria
- Line pressure class
- DN / NPS and flange type
- Available face-to-face space
- Mesh size and open area
- Permissible pressure drop
- Expected solids load during startup
On pump suction, a blocked strainer can reduce available NPSH; monitoring Δp or frequent inspection intervals are recommended.
FAQ
When is removal required?
After flushing/commissioning, once the line is clean and startup procedures allow.
Actuator compatibility?
No. This is a passive filtration device.
When is custom sizing needed?
When existing spool, flanges, or piping class do not permit standard geometry.
