Cast Basket Strainers Conaco Type 507

Conaco Type 507 are cast basket strainers designed for industrial pipelines with ANSI pressure class ratings. They are specified in applications with high solids loading or where increased dirt holding capacity is required compared to Y-strainers. Typical installation points include upstream of pumps, control valves, turbines, flow meters, and process equipment.

Construction and Pressure Rating

  • Type: Cast Basket Strainer, Type 507
  • Body: Cast construction
  • Cover: Flanged
  • Ends: Flanged
  • ANSI Rating: Class 150 to Class 2500
  • Sizes: 1″ to 20″

Materials

Available in carbon steel, low carbon steel, alloy/high alloy steel, and special alloys. Material selection should be based on piping class, process fluid, temperature, corrosion resistance, weldability, and project certification requirements.

Basket, Drain, and Instrumentation

Baskets can be supplied with double or triple mesh layers, mesh on perforated plate, or mesh-on-mesh configurations. Drain connections can be provided with nipples, flanges, valves, or plugs. Optional vent and DP gauge ports are available. Differential pressure measurement is recommended for maintenance based on actual basket loading.

Linings and Protection

For corrosive media or specific environmental conditions, options include epoxy lining, cladding, rubberizing, and project-specified coating systems. Lining selection must consider chemical compatibility, temperature, and mechanical stress.

Selection and Installation

Selection is based on ANSI class, size, flow rate, mesh, open basket area, allowable pressure drop, and cover access. For pump suction, verify Δp increase with loaded basket versus available NPSH.

FAQ

When is a basket strainer preferred over a Y-strainer?
When higher solids capacity and easier basket removal are required.

Can it be fitted with an actuator?
No. This is a passive in-line filter.

When is a DP gauge recommended?
When maintenance is scheduled based on measured differential pressure rather than fixed cleaning intervals.
