BLU ZAC SACO – Sample Cooler

The BLU ZAC SACO is a compact heat exchanger designed for cooling or heating process sample fluids. In boiler houses, it is primarily used to cool boiler water, condensate, or hot water samples prior to conductivity, pH measurement, or chemical analysis. Operation is based on a helical coil immersed in a small vessel with a heating or cooling medium.

Construction

The sample cooler consists of a body, internal coil, cover, gasket, bolts, and nuts. BLU ZAC specifies typical design and fabrication in accordance with ASME VIII Div.1 and ASME B16.34.

Available configurations:

  • no legs, single leg, or three-leg support
  • open, covered, or threaded cover versions
  • Buttweld (BW) connections per ANSI B16.25
  • Flanged connections per ANSI B16.5
  • Standard connection sizes from 3/8" to 1"; dimension tables include larger versions up to 1½"

Materials

Material options include:

  • Body: ASTM A106 Gr.B, ASTM A333 Gr.6, ASTM A312 TP304, ASTM A312 TP316
  • Coil: ASTM A105, ASTM A350 LF2, ASTM A182 F304, ASTM A182 F316
  • Cover: carbon steel, low-temperature, or stainless steel grades
  • Gasket: spiral wound with graphite filler, 316 or carbon steel outer ring
  • Bolts/nuts: A193 B7 / A194 2H, A320 L7 / A194 Gr.4, A193 B8 / A194 Gr.8

Applications

Suitable for sampling points in steam boilers, condensate lines, feedwater, and auxiliary process circuits. Material selection should consider pressure, temperature, water chemistry, corrosivity, and compatibility with existing piping.

Maintenance

Annual maintenance and monthly inspection/cleaning are recommended where accessible. For threaded cover versions, maintenance includes line isolation, cover removal, coil cleaning, inspection for wear, gasket replacement, and leak testing on restart.

Description

SAMPLE COOLER

Heat exchangers are generally used as fluid coolers/heaters.

The design involves a small amount of helicoidal spiral piping immersed in a small cask filled with of a hot/cold liquid; according to the principle of heat exchange the piping absorbs/releases the temperature of the liquid in which it is immersed, allowing the plant’s technicians to bring the fluid to the required temperature.
