Sample Coolers
Sample coolers are used in steam boiler plants, hot water lines, and condensate circuits to reduce sample temperature before chemical analysis or measurement of conductivity, pH, TDS, and alkalinity. Cooling the sample limits flashing risk, improves operator safety, and allows analytical instruments to operate within their specified temperature limits.
This category includes ADCA SC32 / SC132, SC32F / SC132F, SC32B / SC132B, and SC332–SC532 sample coolers, with stainless steel body and coil construction. The smaller models are fitted with 1/2” or 3/4” BSP/NPT cooling water connections and an 8 mm O/D sample tube. Maximum allowable working pressure is 20 bar on the body side and 110 bar on the coil side, with temperature limits of 120 °C for the body and 450 °C for the coil. For higher-pressure or higher-temperature sampling points, the SC332–SC532 range uses a 10 mm O/D sample tube and is rated for coil pressure up to 280 bar and coil temperature up to 550 °C.
BLU ZAC SACO sample coolers operate as compact heat exchangers with helical tubing installed inside a vessel containing the cooling or heating medium. Sizes are available from 3/8” to 1”, with buttweld end connections to ANSI B16.25 or flanged connections to ANSI B16.5. The BLU ZAC SASY sampling station is intended for complete liquid and gas sampling systems and can incorporate a sample cooler, protective cabinet, and sample return to the process line where process conditions permit.
Selection should be based on sampling point pressure and temperature, required sample flow rate, available cooling water flow, coil cleanability, material compatibility with the process medium, and integration with boiler water control and monitoring procedures. Attention should also be given to pressure containment, thermal shock, connection standard, maintainability, and containment of leakage during operation or servicing.
