STRIKO SVT 05 Leak Detection Sensor

The SVT 05 is designed for early leak detection in rupture discs or safety valves, prior to full activation of the relief device. It is installed on the vent side and monitors for minor failures such as pitting corrosion, hairline cracks, or seat leakage from the valve.

Operating Principle

The process side features a closed PTFE membrane. Even a slow pressure increase from leakage deforms the membrane and breaks the conductive circuit. This change is transmitted to a PLC, DCS, SIS, or alarm panel as a circuit status change.

Technical Data

  • Operating temperature: -30°C to +220°C
  • Max current: 50 mA
  • Max resistance before activation: 20 Ω
  • Conductive path: silver
  • Membrane: PEEK
  • Product sealing membrane: PTFE
  • Gaskets: Klingersil C 4400 or other materials on request
  • Cable: Teflon sheath, 2 m length
  • Compatibility: STRIKO metallic and graphite rupture discs, as well as discs from other manufacturers.

Difference from SVT 02

The SVT 02 is a burst indicator: it signals when the disc opens. The SVT 05 is a leak sensor: it is used when early detection of minor leakage is required before full rupture or after seat leakage of a safety valve.

ATEX / Intrinsic Safety

STRIKO indicators and sensors are classified as simple electrical equipment when connected to an intrinsically safe circuit. Installation is assessed per EN 60079-11 and EN 60079-14, with appropriate barriers and zone documentation.

FAQ

Does it replace the rupture disc?
No. It monitors leakage or activation; it does not calculate pressure relief.

Where is it used?
In chemical lines, pressure vessels, scrubbers, reactors, and installations where micro-leakage must be detected before loss of containment occurs.

Description

Leakage Sensor Typ SVT 05

The STRIKO leakage alarm SVT 05 represents the meaningful further development and indispensable supplement of the proven STRIKO alarm SVT 02. It is furnished with a product side, closed PTFE film that will curve also with a slow press increase which will destroy the conductor circuit. The response pressure is only slightly above the values of the alarm SVT02.

Advantages in the application

  • Quick recognition of malfunctions, also for leaking bursting discs (e.g. through pitting corrosion or hairline cracks) or safety valves
  • Highest corrosion resistance through PTFE film closed on the product side
  • Ready-to-install delivery
  • All materials used are asbestos-free
  • Suitable for all metal and graphite bursting discs, also for third party products
  • continuous temperature range: -30 °C to +220 °C (directly on leakage sensor)
  • Can be delivered ex works

Note on ATEX:

All burst indicators / leakage sensors from STRIKO according to the type of protection are rated “i” intrinsic safety – “simple electrical equipment” when connected to an intrinsically safe circuit. The requirements on “simple electrical equipment” are covered in section 5.7 of the standards EN 60079-11:2012 or IEC 60079-11 Ed. 6:2011-06 “Explosive atmospheres – Part 11: Equipment protection by intrinsic safety ‘i’”.

Simple electrical equipment, designed in accordance with the requirements of section 5.7 of the standards EN 60079-11:2012 or IEC 60079-11:2011 and section 16.4 of the standards EN 60079-14: 2014 or IEC 60079-14 Ed. 5: 2013-11 “Explosive atmospheres – Part 14: Electrical installations design, selection and erection” do not require certification; see section 4.4.2 of EN 60079-14: 2014 or IEC 60079-14 Ed. 5: 2013-11.

Such parts are also not governed by directive 94/9/EC since they do not feature any potential source of ignition. The designation of simple equipment can be made by any person/institution, including the manufacturer or installer, and made by freely selectable designation marking or coding preferred for the installation/plant.
