KITO DS/M-IIA Pressure Relief Valve, Type C 9.8 N

The KITO DS/M-IIA C 9.8 N is a pressure relief valve for storage tanks, equipped with integrated flame arrestor elements. Certified for deflagration and endurance burning protection, it is installed on tank roofs and typically paired with a separate vacuum relief valve for full pressure/vacuum protection.

Application Scope

Designed for tanks containing flammable liquids where controlled overpressure venting and flame transmission prevention are required. Certified for explosion group IIA (MESG > 0.9 mm), with a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. Optional ATEX-compliant condensate drain available for specific process requirements.

Sizes and Set Pressure Ranges

Available sizes: DN 80, DN 100, DN 150, DN 200. Flange ratings: PN 16 for DN 80–150, PN 10 for DN 200. ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF connection available as an alternative.

Indicative set pressure ranges:

  • DN 80: 2–200 mbar
  • DN 100: 2–200 mbar
  • DN 150: 2–150 mbar
  • DN 200: 2.8–100 mbar

Higher set pressures require technical confirmation from the manufacturer.

Materials and Sealing

Standard construction:

  • Body: carbon steel, optional stainless steel 1.4571
  • Seat and spindle: stainless steel 1.4571
  • Weight elements: stainless steel 1.4571 or PE
  • Seal: NBR, optional Viton, PTFE, EPDM, or metallic
  • For set pressures ≥100 mbar, only PTFE or metallic sealing is permitted

A and K Variants

Variant A: weather hood in PMMA. Variant K: stainless steel 1.4571 hood with folding mechanism and thermal element.

Flow Calculation

Flow rates are specified for air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K, achieved at 40% accumulation above set pressure, per DIN 4119.

KITO® DS/M-IIA-…-K

  • As breather/venting safety device incorporating an explosion and endurance burning proof flame arrester element for installation on storage tanks containing particular categories of inflammable liquids providing for reliable and safe operation whilst ensuring protection against any possible flashback.
  • The PRV allows the passage of hazardous excess pressure but will minimize the loss of gas/vapours depending on valve adjustment.
  • Usually mounted on the top of the tank in conjunction with a vacuum relief valve.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • An explosion proof condensate drain is also available for this model at extra cost.
