KITO DS/KS-1-IIA Pressure Relief Valve, Type C 7.3 N

The KITO DS/KS-1-IIA is a pressure relief valve for storage tanks, equipped with an integrated flame arrester element. It is designed for protection against deflagration and endurance burning. The C 7.3 N variant is configured for higher pressure settings compared to the C 7 N, utilizing a spring-loaded valve plate and metal-to-metal sealing.

Application Scope

Used as a breather device on storage tanks, this valve allows controlled pressure relief while minimizing vapor or gas losses, depending on the set pressure. It is typically installed on the tank roof, often in conjunction with a vacuum relief valve.

Suitable for:

  • gases and vapors of explosion group IIA,
  • MESG > 0.9 mm,
  • maximum operating temperature 60 °C,
  • tanks for flammable liquids, solvents, and hydrocarbons of group IIA.

Sizes, Connections, and Settings

Available in DN 25, DN 50, DN 80, and DN 100. Standard flanges are EN 1092-1 type B1, with optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF. Pressure classes: DN 25 PN 40; DN 50–100 PN 16.

Set pressure range:

  • minimum: >200 mbar,
  • maximum: 350 mbar,
  • lower settings: type C 7 N,
  • higher settings: subject to technical review.

Materials and Construction

Standard construction:

  • carbon steel body,
  • optional 1.4571 stainless steel body,
  • seat and shaft in 1.4571,
  • spring-loaded valve plate,
  • metallic sealing,
  • replaceable flame arrester element,
  • PA6 protective mesh.

A and K Versions

Version A includes a PMMA weather cover.
Version K features a 1.4571 stainless steel cover with folding mechanism and thermal fuse element.

Flow Calculation

Flow curves are based on air at 1.29 kg/m³ and 273 K. Stated flow rates are achieved with 40% accumulation above set pressure, per DIN 4119. For lower permissible overpressure, consult manufacturer for correction factors.

Standards and Certifications

The valve is type-tested to EN ISO 16852 and CE marked in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® DS/KS-1-IIA-…-A

KITO® DS/KS-1-IIA-…-K

  • As venting device for installation on storage tanks incorporating an explosion and endurance burning flame arrester element and a PRV to allow for the passage of excess pressure but prevent or minimize the loss of gas/vapours depending on valve adjustment.
  • Usually mounted on top of the tank in conjunction with a vacuum relief valve.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Usually mounted on the top of the tank in conjunction with a vacuum relief valve (see KITO® VS/KS-IIB3-…).
  • An explosion proof condensate drain is also available for this model at extra cost.
