Indicator & Alarm Unit - Type 40T72 | Gefran

Gefran 40T72 Process Indicator & Alarm Unit

The Gefran 40T72 is a 72×36 mm panel-mounted process indicator and alarm unit for temperature or linear process signals. It is not a PID controller; its primary functions are local PV indication, limit monitoring, and digital alarm signaling in machine panels. The Lexan front panel is rated IP65, featuring three keys and a 2-, 3-, or 4-digit LED display.

Measurement Inputs

Input selection is performed via the front panel and terminal assignment, with no external shunt or adapter required. Supported input types include:

  • Thermocouples: J, K, R, S, T, B, E, N, L-GOST, U, G, D, C
  • RTD Pt100 / JPt100, 2- or 3-wire
  • PTC and NTC sensors
  • Linear signals: 0–60 mV, 12–60 mV, 0/4–20 mA, 0–10 V / 2–10 V / 0–5 V / 1–5 V / 0–1 V / 0.2–1 V

Alarm Outputs & Retransmission

Up to three trip points are configurable. Outputs are available as relay (5 A / 250 Vac) or logic (0–11 Vdc). The third output can be replaced by a 4–20 mA analog retransmission or a 24 Vdc / 4 mA digital input for reset, hold, flash, peak handling, or latch release functions.

Sampling Time & Scaling

For linear inputs, sampling time is selectable at 120, 60, 30, or 15 ms, with resolution from 8000 to 2000 divisions. The 4-digit display range is adjustable from -1999 to 9999. Custom linearization up to 32 points is supported for engineering units.

Typical Applications

  • High/low temperature alarms in furnaces and thermal zones
  • Indication of 4–20 mA or 0–10 V transmitter signals
  • Temperature monitoring in packaging and food processing machinery
  • Local indication on test benches and auxiliary panels
  • Repeat indication with alarm contacts to PLC or relay logic

Operating Conditions & Standards

Power supply: 11–27 Vdc or 18–27 Vac, max consumption 4.5 VA. UKCA declaration covers RoHS, EMC, and Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations, with compliance to EN 63000:2018, EN 61326-1:2013, and EN 61010-1:2010.

Overview

Microprocessor based indicator in 72×36 format manufactured with SMT.

The instruments have a lexan membrane faceplate (guaranteed to IP65) which has 3 keys, a 2, 3 / 4 digit display.

The input signal can be selected from a wide range of sensors:

  • Thermocouples of type J, K, R, S, T, B, E, N, L GOST, U, G, D, C
  • Resistance thermometers Pt100, Pt100J (japanese standard) 2 / 3 wire
  • PTC and NTC themistors
  • Linear inputs 0 to 60/12 to 60mV, 0 to 20/4 to 20mA, 0 to 10/2 to 10/0 to 5/1 to 5/0 to 1/0, 2 to1V
  • The selection is made using the faceplate keys and correct input contact.

No external shunt or adapter is required.

A digital input (24Vdc/4mA) is available for resetting, hold, flash, peak handling or releasing latch. The instruments have a maximum of 3 outputs that can be mechanical relays (5A/250V) or logic outputs (0 to 11Vdc).

In alternative to output 3 a 4 to 20mA output is available (max. 150 Ohm) for retransmission of the measured input signal, or a digital input (24Vdc/4mA) can be provided which can be used for resetting, hold, flash, peak handling or releasing latch.

Finally, a triac can be fitted (as an alternative to the other two relay outputs) that can drive resistive loads up to a maximum of 2,5A at 220V.

The programming of the instrument is made easy by grouping the parameters in function blocks (CFG for the alarm hysteresis, Inp for the inputs, Out for the outputs…) and by a simplified data entry menu.

The configuration can be simplified even further using the PC programming kit made up of a connection cable and a menu guide program that runs under Windows (see data sheet cod. 80021).

A configurable personal software protection code (password protection) can be used to restrict the levels of editing and displaying the configuration parameters.
