Indicator & Alarm Unit - Type 40T48 | Gefran

Gefran 40T48 Display & Alarm Unit

The Gefran 40T48 is a temperature and process variable display and alarm unit, 48×48 mm (1/16 DIN), designed for panel mounting. It is not a PID controller; its primary functions are PV indication, limit monitoring, and alarm output activation for thermal or linear process variables. The front panel is rated IP65, features a 4-digit red LED display, three keys, and output status LEDs.

Measurement Inputs

Input type is configured from the front panel, with no external shunt or adapter required. Supported sensors include thermocouples J, K, R, S, T, B, E, N, L-GOST, U, G, D, C; RTD Pt100/JPt100; PTC; NTC; and linear signals 60 mV, 1 V, 5 V, 10 V, and 20 mA. The scale is adjustable from -1999 to 9999, with decimal point selection and 32-segment linearization capability.

Accuracy and Response Time

Accuracy is 0.2% f.s. at 25 °C with a 120 ms sampling time. For linear inputs, selectable sampling times of 60, 30, or 15 ms are available, with corresponding resolution reduction. This is relevant for fast signal changes where alarm speed is prioritized over maximum resolution.

Outputs and Alarm Logic

Up to three alarms are configurable as absolute, deviation, or symmetrical deviation. Features include hysteresis, startup masking, latch reset via key or external contact, and delay filters (DON, DBI, DOF, DPO). Output options: relay 5 A / 250 Vac, logic 24 Vdc, or triac 20–240 Vac / 1 A.

Retransmission and Communication

Optional analog retransmission (10 V or 20 mA, 12 bit, up to 500 Ω). Digital input (24 V / 5 mA) for latch reset, hold, flash, zero, and peak value selection. Communication via isolated RS485 with Modbus RTU or GEFRAN CENCAL protocols.

Typical Applications

  • Temperature indication in furnaces and thermal zones
  • High/low temperature alarms in production machinery
  • Monitoring of linear signals (4–20 mA, 0–10 V)
  • Local display in extruders, packaging machines, and test benches

Operating Conditions and Standards

Power supply: 100–240 Vac/dc or 11–27 Vac/dc. Operating range: 0–50 °C, 20–85% RH non-condensing. UKCA declaration references EN 63000:2018, EN 61326-1:2013, and EN 61010-1:2010.

Overview

Microprocessor based indicator in both 48×48 (1/16 DIN) formats manufactured with SMT.

The instruments have a lexan membrane faceplate (guaranteed to IP65) which has 3 keys, a 4 digit display and 3 indicating LED's for the output statuses.

The input signal can be selected from a wide range of sensors:

  • Thermocouples of type: J, K, R, S, T, B, E, N, L GOST, U, G, D, C
  • Resistance thermometers Pt100, Pt100J 2 / 3 wire
  • PTC and NTC themistors
  • Linear inputs 0 to 60/12 to 60mV, 0 to 20/4 to 20mA, 0 to 10/2 to 10/0 to 5/1 to 5/0 to 1/0, 2 to1V

The selection is made using the faceplate keys and correct input terminals.

No external shunt or adapter is required. A digital input (24Vdc/4mA) is available for resetting, hold, flash, peak handling or releasing latch.

No external shunt or adapter is required. A digital input (24Vdc/5mA) is available for resetting, hold, flash, peak handling or releasing latch. The instruments have a maximum of 4 outputs that can be mechanical relays (5A/250V) or logic outputs 24V±10% (10Vmin / 20mA).

One output of 4 to 20mA (max. 500 Ohm) is available for retranmitting the measured input signal.

The retransmission output, the digital input and the third output are alternatives.

The options include a triac output that can directly drive resistive loads up to a maximum of 1A at 240V.

The programming of the instrument is made easy by grouping the parameters in function blocks (CFG for the alarm hysteresis, Inp for the inputs, Out for the outputs…) and by a simplified data entry menu.

The configuration can be simplified even further using the PC programming kit made up of a connection cable and a menu guide program that runs under Windows (see technical data).

A configurable personal software protection code (password protection) can be used to restrict the levels of editing and displaying the configuration parameters.
