Cla-Val 60-32 / 660-32 – Pump Control Valve with Back Pressure

The Cla-Val 60-32 / 660-32 is a pilot-operated pump discharge control valve designed for booster pump applications. It integrates pump start/stop sequencing with adjustable back pressure regulation during operation.

Operation

When the pump is offline, the valve remains closed due to system pressure. On pump start, the CS3M solenoid is energized, causing the valve to open gradually, allowing controlled flow and pressure increase up to the set back pressure. During shutdown, the valve closes in a controlled manner; the X105LCW limit switch stops the pump after full closure.

Technical Data

Materials and Sealing

Body: ductile iron ASTM A536, cast steel ASTM A216 WCB, or bronze UNS 87850. Disc and diaphragm: Buna-N. Stem and spring: stainless steel. Pilot system available in low-lead bronze, stainless steel, or Monel. Sealing options depend on media compatibility and process requirements.

Applications

  • Booster pump stations with multiple pumps
  • Potable water networks requiring minimum discharge pressure
  • Industrial water distribution systems
  • Installations requiring lift-type non-return function
  • Systems with pump/valve electrical interlock

Selection Considerations

Selection is based on flow rate, allowable pressure loss, pressure class, back pressure range, trim material, and solenoid voltage. For power failure protection, use surge anticipator 52-03 / 652-03. Ensure compatibility with process media and required certifications.

Description

Cla-Val 60-32 and 660-32 Combination Pump Control and Back Pressure Valves are pilot-operated control valves designed for booster pump discharge installation to eliminate pipeline surges caused by the starting and stopping of the pump and to provide adjustable back pressure on the pump while it is running.

The valves feature a modified globe-design with diaphragm-actuation, and hydraulic operation for smooth, reliable automatic operation during pump starting and stopping. A built-in lift-type check feature automatically closes the valve on electric power failure or any time pressure reversal occurs to protect the pump from back spinning.
