Cla-Val 60-73 / 660-73 – Pump Booster Control Valve

The Cla-Val 60-73 / 660-73 is a pilot-operated pump discharge control valve designed for booster pump applications. Operation is based on a solenoid valve, shuttle valve, and integrated lift-type check valve, providing controlled pump start and stop sequencing.

Operation

The pump starts with the valve closed. When the CSM11-A2-2 solenoid is energized, pressure is directed to the lower diaphragm chamber, opening the valve at an adjustable rate. During shutdown, the solenoid de-energizes, the valve closes gradually, and the X105LCW limit switch stops the pump once the valve is fully closed.

Technical Data

  • Main valve: Powercheck 100-30
  • Sizes: DN65–DN200
  • Body style: globe or angle pattern
  • Connections: threaded or flanged
  • Pressure classes: ANSI 150 / 300
  • Body materials: ASTM A536, ASTM A216 WCB, UNS 87850 bronze
  • Disc/diaphragm: Buna-N, reinforced diaphragm
  • Stem, nut, spring: stainless steel
  • Water temperature: up to 82 °C
  • Solenoid CSM11: up to 300 psi, AC or DC coil

Applications

  • Booster pumps in water distribution networks
  • Pumping stations requiring controlled start/stop
  • Industrial water circuits
  • Lines requiring check function during power failure
  • Systems with electrical interlock or PC-22D control panel

Selection Considerations

Valve sizing is based on pump flow and acceptable pressure loss. Select the smallest size that meets flow requirements; oversizing reduces control over pressure transients. Exhaust from the solenoid valve must be drained without backpressure and with an air gap.

Description

Cla-Val 60-73 & 660-73 Booster Pump Control Valves are pilot-operated valves designed for installation on the discharge of booster pumps to eliminate pipeline surges caused by the starting and stopping of the pump.

The pump starts against a closed valve. When the pump is started, the solenoid control is energized and the valve begins to open slowly, gradually increasing line pressure to full pumping head. When the pump is signaled to shut-off, the solenoid control is de-energized and the valve begins to close slowly, gradually reducing flow while the pump continues to run. When the valve is closed, a limit switch assembly, which serves as an electrical interlock between the valve and the pump, releases the pump starter and the pump stops.
