Cla-Val 100AF Fueling Drain Valve 3/4”–1”

The Cla-Val 100AF is a hydraulically operated, diaphragm-actuated globe valve designed for water drain lines from water accumulator sumps in fuel/water separator systems. Its primary function is to control the removal of water from fuel systems, commonly applied in rail, aviation, and industrial fuel installations where water separation and drainage are critical for process integrity.

Control Operation

The valve is actuated via a float control valve. For closure, operating pressure is applied above the diaphragm. For opening, pressure is vented to atmosphere. In the event of diaphragm failure, the valve defaults to a tight shut-off position, ensuring isolation of the drain line.

Technical Data

  • Sizes: 3/4” and 1”
  • Maximum pressure: 400 psi
  • Operating temperature: 32–180 °F
  • Media: water
  • Specification: MIL-F-254D
  • Body type: globe pattern
  • Seat: single seat with resilient disc
  • Removable seat ring for 1” and larger sizes

Construction Materials

Standard construction includes body and cover in bronze ASTM B-62, brass trim, and diaphragm/disc in fuel-resistant synthetic rubber. Aluminum or stainless steel options are available for environments requiring enhanced corrosion resistance or specific material compatibility.

Installation

Preferred installation is horizontal with cover upwards. Vertical or inverted mounting is permissible if flow direction is maintained. Prior to installation, flush piping to remove debris and foreign matter. After initial pressurization, vent the cover chamber and control lines to eliminate trapped air.

Maintenance

The 100AF requires no lubrication or packing glands. Inspection is possible in-line after isolating pressure and venting the cover chamber. Key inspection points include the disc, retainer assembly, and seat for wear or trapped particles.

FAQ

Where is the 100AF installed?
In the drain line from the water accumulator sump of a fuel/water separator.

What is the fail-safe position in diaphragm failure?
Closed position, providing tight isolation of the drain line.

Description

The Cla-Val Model 100PAF is a hydraulically operated, diaphragm actuated, globe or angle pattern valve. It consists of four major components: the body, intermediate body, diaphragm assembly, and cover. The diaphragm assembly is the only moving part.

The Model 100PAF is recommended where independent operating pressure is desired, or when line fluid is unsuitable as an operating medium. By throttling the operating supply, the valves opening and closing speed can be controlled very closely. With proper pilot controls, the valve can be held in any intermediate position between fully open and tightly closed. In all positions the valve diaphragm is fully supported by hydraulic balance, or by the internal configuration of the valve chambers.
