Globe Valves
Globe-type shut-off valves are used in industrial piping where positive isolation, controlled throttling, or a combination of shut-off and non-return function is required. The seat-disc geometry provides finer flow regulation than full-port valves, with the trade-off of higher pressure drop; this must be considered in Δp calculations and in Kv/Cv selection.
This category includes bellows-sealed and packed globe valves, in straight, angle, and Y-pattern configurations, for steam, condensate, hot water, thermal oil, air, process gases, hydrocarbons, and other compatible industrial fluids. Bellows-sealed versions are selected where stem leakage must be minimized, particularly in steam service, thermal systems, chemical duty, or applications where packing emissions are not acceptable. Graphite-packed designs remain suitable for general isolation duty, subject to periodic inspection of gland load and packing wear.
Available constructions include DIN/EN and ASME designs, with bolted bonnet, pressure seal bonnet, forged or cast steel bodies, as well as special versions for cryogenic service with extended bonnet, stop-check operation, compact forged design, and high-pressure duty. Selection is based on DN/NPS, pressure rating in PN or ASME Class, operating temperature, body and trim material compatibility, end connection type such as RF, RTJ, or BW, flow direction, seat tightness requirements, and maintenance conditions. For high-pressure or high-temperature service, pressure seal configurations should be evaluated, while Y-pattern valves are typically preferred where lower hydraulic resistance is required compared with conventional straight-pattern globe valves.
