Globe Valve Y-Type Bolted Bonnet - ASME | Valvosider

Y-Type Valvosider Steam Valve per ASME

The Valvosider Y-Type is an oblique flow globe valve featuring a bolted bonnet, outside screw & yoke, rising stem, rising handwheel, and swivel plug disc. The Y geometry is selected for isolation or controlled throttling with reduced flow resistance compared to conventional straight globe valves.

Pressure Classes and Sizes

  • Class 150: 2"–16", Fig. 460Y
  • Class 300: 2"–16", Fig. 461Y
  • Class 600: 2"–16", Fig. 462Y
  • Class 900: 2"–12", Fig. 463Y
  • Class 1500: 2"–12", Fig. 464Y

Available body materials include ASTM A216 WCB, ASTM A352 LCB, ASTM A217 WC6/C5/C12, and stainless versions ASTM A351 CF8/CF8C/CF8M/CF3M.

Standards and Testing

Design is based on BS 1873, ASME B16.34, and API 623. Face-to-face lengths per ASME B16.10, flanges per ASME B16.5, BW ends per ASME B16.25, testing per API 598 / EN 12266, and marking per MSS-SP 25. Certificates EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 and CE-PED compliance available.

Sealing and Trim

The bonnet gasket is spiral wound reinforced graphite or RTJ, with packing consisting of graphite rings and wiper rings. Seat surfaces can be supplied with F6A, F304, F321, F316, or F316L, with optional coatings of Stellite, Monel, or Hastelloy depending on fluid and temperature.

Applications and Selection

Suitable for steam, hot water, condensates, gases, and process fluids in ASME installations. Selection is based on class rating, temperature, body material, Δp, allowable pressure drop, and shut-off or throttling requirements.

For high pressure below the disc, manufacturer limits must be checked. If exceeded, a gear operator or installation with pressure above the disc and internal or external bypass is recommended.

Actuation Options

Available with ISO 5210 top flange, gear operator, chain wheel, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric actuator, position indicator, limit switches, interlock, parabolic disc, stop-check disc, live-loaded packing, extended stuffing box, drain plug, and bypass.

FAQ

When is Y-Type selected?

When a globe valve with lower pressure loss than the straight configuration is required, without switching to a gate valve.

Is it suitable for regulation?

Yes, with parabolic disc and control of Δp, velocity, noise, erosion, and seat wear.
