Cryogenic Gate Valve Valvosider per ASME

The Valvosider cryogenic ASME gate valve is designed for flow isolation in cryogenic fluids and low temperatures, such as LNG, liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, argon, and other industrial gases in liquid phase. It is not intended for throttling service; operation should be fully open or fully closed.

Variants

  • 450EB: Class 150, 2"–40"
  • 451EB: Class 300, 2"–40"
  • 452EB: Class 600, 2"–24"
  • 453EB: Class 900, 2"–24"
  • 454EB: Class 1500, 2"–24"

Construction and Standards

The basic construction includes extended bonnet, bolted bonnet, outside screw & yoke, rising stem, and non-rising handwheel. The extended bonnet keeps the packing away from the cold zone, reducing the risk of freezing around the stem. Design references include API 600, BS 1414, ASME B16.34, and ISO 10434. Face-to-face dimensions per ASME B16.10, flanges per ASME B16.5 up to 24" and ASME B16.47 from 26", with BW ends option per ASME B16.25. Testing per API 598 / EN 12266, marking MSS-SP 25, CE/PED, and certificates EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2.

Materials and Sealing

Available body versions are ASTM A351 CF8 and ASTM A351 CF8M. Seat and wedge surfaces are F316, with options for Stellite, Monel, Hastelloy, or other materials. Gasket and packing are PTFE, with graphite or other materials available upon application requirements.

Cryogenic Selection Details

Documentation shows a relief hole in the flexible wedge. This is critical in cryogenic liquids, as trapped liquid can expand upon warming, increasing pressure in the cavity. Fully extractable cold box and cold box configurations are available, useful in insulated or cold chamber installations.

Operation Options

Available options include ISO 5210 top flange, gear operator, chain wheel, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric actuator, position indicator, limit switches, locking/interlock, PTFE soft seats, stem protection, live-loaded packing, drain plug, by-pass, BW ends, and DIN connections. A gear operator is recommended from 16" Class 150, 12" Class 300, 8" Class 600, and 6" for Class 900/1500.

FAQ

Why is an extended bonnet needed?
To keep the packing out of extremely low temperatures.

When is a relief hole required?
In cryogenic liquids, to prevent overpressure from trapped liquid.

RF, RTJ, or BW?
RF/RTJ for flanged ASME lines. BW when a welded process connection is required.
