Hydraulic Flow Control Valves - X52E Orifice Plate Assembly | Cla-Val

Cla-Val X52E – Orifice Plate Assembly

The Cla-Val X52E is an orifice plate assembly designed for use with Cla-Val hydraulic flow control valves. It does not independently regulate flow; instead, it generates a predictable pressure drop, providing a stable differential signal to the main valve’s pilot circuit for accurate flow control.

Functional Role

Installed downstream of the control valve, the orifice plate creates a differential pressure proportional to flow rate. This differential is used by the pilot circuit to modulate the main valve position, enabling precise throttling or opening based on process requirements.

Construction / Installation

  • Wafer-type holder for installation between flanges (EN, ANSI, or JIS).
  • Compact design, no separate valve body.
  • Chamfered inlet side ensures correct orientation during installation.
  • Sensing port should be positioned laterally to minimize air entrapment or signal line blockage.

Application Limitations

Do not install immediately adjacent to butterfly valves, as disc movement may interfere with the orifice plate assembly.

Typical Applications

  • Cla-Val rate-of-flow control valves
  • Potable water distribution networks
  • Tank filling lines
  • Pressure filter systems
  • Industrial process water circuits

Selection Criteria

Selection requires pipe diameter, target flow rate, orifice bore, operating pressure, flange standard, and compatibility with main valve pilot tubing. Suitable for water and compatible liquids; consult datasheet for pressure class, temperature range, and material options.

Description

The Cla-Val Model X52E Orifice Plate Assembly is typically used with Cla-Val flow control valves. The orifice plate is an essential component used to generate a specific, predictable pressure drop in the system. The X52E uses a wafer design holder that offers a compact lightweight assembly that is easy to install. The X52E has a Chamfered “Inlet” side so even after installation, correct orientation can be easily verified.

We recommend the installation of this assembly with the sensing port to the side of the pipeline to prevent air pockets and obstructions in the sensing line. Installation adjacent to a butterfly valve is not recommended as the orifice plate assembly may interfere with the opening of this type of valve.
